Celebrating 70
When I first spoke with Irene on the phone I was taken with her charisma and enthusiasm. She had a very specific vision for her shoot and I loved planning it with her. Her session was a mix of beauty and boudoir photography and I loved every moment of it. Take a look through a few of her photos and please read what she wrote, it is truly inspiring.
When I turned 50, a friend said, “Congrats, now you have more years behind you instead of in front of you.” At the time, it didn’t seem too important to matter. And then suddenly, I was approaching 70! An auspicious occasion, frightening, daunting, and sort of sad, too.
Some younger women I know have “boudoir” photo sessions before they marry. They have chosen a life partner and are looking forward - full of hopes and dreams for their future. At age 70, one can look back over a life that hasn’t always turned out the way you think it will. At this age, most women have had their share of emotional ups and downs, successes, and disappointments. The journey has sometimes been smooth and calm, occasionally bumpy and rough. As I approached this new decade, I wanted to acknowledge and celebrate the multi-dimensional, stronger, happier, in control, emotionally secure, focused woman it has taken a lifetime to be.
The first half of my 60s was tumultuous and filled with turmoil – divorce, bankruptcies (his, not mine), home and job losses, relocations. The second half of the decade was filled with learning and growth lessons coupled with finally grieving a multitude of lifelong losses. The time had come to honor the myriad of experiences that shaped and molded me into person I’ve become.
And so, I researched different photographers. I chose Amber because she was genuine, experienced, and curious when we first met. My age wasn’t an issue (so far, I’m her oldest client!), and she was open to my ideas on what I wanted to portray in the photos. The studio environment was important – lots of windows, cozy furniture, a warm and inviting space. Plus professional makeup by Stacie and a glass of champagne to calm nerves on the day of the shoot!
During the photo session, Amber complimented and encouraged me throughout the day. I felt so comfortable and confident in my skin. Strong. Bold. Proud. Sensuous. Sophisticated. Badass.
We women are exceptional, experienced, and empowered – each of us gifted and exquisite in our own right. It doesn’t matter our size, shape, or how many wrinkles we have. We have lived, loved, sacrificed, and survived. Now is the time to celebrate who we are. I encourage women of any age to book a session now!
