Kaitlyn's Spotlight | West Hartford Premier Boudoir Studio
Hello! My name is Kaitlyn. I’m 35 and have been married for 10 years. I’m a proud mom, and we can’t forget about the dog! I really wanted to start doing things that made me genuinely happy. I even recently got back into Irish dancing, which has been my favorite activity since I was a kid. I knew I wanted to bring more things into my life that brought me joy, so it was time for something new!
Boudoir. Why did I choose to do it? I had never done a boudoir shoot before. Still, I thought it would make a wonderful gift for my husband for our 10th wedding anniversary. I knew I wanted to do it, so I began searching for the right photographer. I made a shortlist of photographers to call based on the samples of their work I found while searching. Let me tell you, Amber was at the top of the list! She was actually the only one I ended up calling because I felt like we clicked during our phone consultation!
She felt like the right photographer for me.
Initially, this was solely intended as an anniversary gift for my husband. I began to work hard on my physical health. After a year and a half of hard work leading up to the photoshoot, it had ultimately become a reward for me. A gift for me.
I had to figure out my vision and put it into words. I initially had a hard time describing what I was looking for during my planning meeting with Amber. Putting the right words to my vision was a challenge, but we definitely nailed it! I wanted to feel sexy without the feeling of pushing or forcing anything. I still wanted to feel like me. Thankfully, Amber completely understood what I was looking for and knew exactly how to get me there!
When it came to picking out which lingerie styles I wanted, I mostly wore the bra and panty sets in various colors plus a couple bodysuits. I wanted to feel and look sexy while feeling comfortable in my own skin. Since the shoot was planned as an anniversary gift, I even brought my heels from our wedding! We paired that with a beautiful white lace set. It was a nice nod to our wedding and anniversary without feeling too bridal.
When asked how I wanted to look, I expressed I wanted to “look like me but better.” Stacie, the makeup artist, did an amazing job, and I absolutely love how she made me look that day. We decided on a natural look with some waves in my hair, which looked great in the photos! Having my hair and makeup done right onsite was a great way to ease into the afternoon. I definitely enjoyed relaxing with a glass of champagne and chatting with Stacie and Amber before jumping into the photoshoot!
My experience with the posing portion couldn’t have been better. I thought I was going to feel uncomfortable, at least at first, but in the end, I didn’t feel that way at all. Amber made me so at ease and provided excellent instruction. I had so much fun!!
It’s hard to pick a favorite section of the studio for taking photos, but I’d say the black chaise in the gold room was one of my favorites. Amber’s use of light and the colors in the room worked so well with my hair color, and the outfit I wore for that room matched perfectly!
My favorite outfit going in was definitely the emerald green bra and panty set. However, after seeing my photos, I added my black bodysuit to my favorites list. I loved how it was one piece in front but split in the back. The best of both worlds!
What was going through my head during the photoshoot? That I was surprised at how much fun I was having! I really expected to be nervous, so it was amazingly freeing when I realized I wasn’t nervous at all. Honestly, I don’t have a favorite part of the experience. The whole thing was my favorite. I had so much fun!!
After it was over, I felt so sexy and felt a fun edginess! A boudoir shoot was not something I thought I’d do, so doing one and feeling so comfortable doing it was a surprise I really enjoyed.
When I came in to see my photos for the first time, I was SO excited!!! When I watched the video of all my photos as a collection Amber made for me, I had a huge smile on my face!! They made me feel so confident. I was so excited! I was surprised there were so MANY awesome photos!
Boudoir helped me step out of my comfort zone and gave me the best anniversary gift ever for my husband. I gave him the album for our 10th wedding anniversary, and he was SHOCKED!! Of course, in a good way!! He was absolutely blown away and said it was the best gift ever.
I loved everything about this experience. From the first phone consultation to viewing my photos and picking out the album, I loved every minute of it. I had so much fun, and it was awesome to feel so relaxed while doing something completely out of my comfort zone. I find myself trying to think of reasons to do another photoshoot because I enjoyed it so much!!
